    Independent Certificate Verification

Every certificate carries a unique verification code that attorneys, magistrates, probation officers, and HR can confirm online at www.root-calm.com/verify. Acceptance of an online programme remains at the discretion of the presiding officer or supervisor.

Time-verified sessions Pre & post clinical assessments Detailed progress report

Signed by Dr Elizma van der Smit, Clinical Psychologist (HPCSA PS0064793) · NAMA CAMS-II Certified.

Before enrolling: This programme is designed to meet common anger-management requirements, but acceptance is at the discretion of your specific court, probation officer, employer, or HR department. We strongly recommend confirming with your legal representative or supervisor that an online programme meets the requirement before purchase.

    Free Pre-Approval Letter

Not sure if your court or probation officer will accept an online programme? Generate a free programme description letter in under a minute — scope, contact hours, clinician credentials and reporting — and lodge it with the court before you pay anything.

Attorneys & Courts: Verify a Certificate

Every RootCalm certificate carries a unique verification code. Attorneys, probation officers, and HR can confirm authenticity online in seconds — no phone calls, no waiting.

    How enrolment works

    1. Free pre-approval letter

Generated immediately after a short form, before any payment, at /court-program/pre-approval. It sets out scope, contact hours, clinician credentials and reporting so your attorney or supervising officer can lodge it with the court.

    2. Self-serve card payment

Choose the ordered tier above and pay by card. Access starts immediately — there is no wait for an emailed enrolment link. The tier is locked at enrolment.

    3. Attorney / officer portal

Your attorney or supervising officer registers instantly at /portal and gets an access code. Enter that code under Share my progress and your case appears on their dashboard right away. You can revoke it any time.

Acceptance is decided solely by the court, prosecutor, probation department or other ordering authority. RootCalm is not court-approved and claims no approval.

Limited court-refusal exception: a full programme-fee refund applies if the relevant authority refuses the programme for its content within 7 days of enrolment. It does not apply after acceptance or an order approving the programme, to participant misconduct or non-compliance, or to dissatisfaction with results. Email support@root-calm.com with the written refusal and your purchase details. Full terms: root-calm.com/terms.

For invoicing or bulk enrolment by a probation office, email support@root-calm.com.

Everything you need to complete and document the programme.

    12 structured modules

Video lessons, written content, and clinical worksheets.

    Pre & post DAR-5 self-assessments

Every tier uses the validated DAR-5 at intake and completion to document self-reported change.

    Time-verified sessions

Each session is logged with timestamp and duration for verifiable hours.

    Completion certificate

A downloadable, verifiable certificate with your name, hours, and a unique verification code.

    Highly personalised & interactive

11+ save-your-answers assessments (Anger Type, Style, Physiology, SAD HATS, Cycle Timeline, Trigger Map, Warning-Sign Tracker, Hot-Thought Log, Assertive Script Builder, De-escalation Plan, 3-Styles). Every module ends with a recap that plays your own answers back to you — and everything exports as a single 'My Anger Profile' PDF you can hand to your therapist, PO or attorney.

    Progress report (PDF)

Detailed report you can submit to your attorney, probation officer, or employer.

    Optional live facilitator Q&A

A live group Q&A runs twice monthly: the 1st Saturday at 09:00 US Central and the 3rd Saturday at 13:00 US Central, shown in your timezone. Attendance is facilitator-marked and retained internally; it does not count toward required hours, appear as an itemised court-report entry or affect completion.

    1 year Pro membership

AI coach, all assessments, meditations, and the full free course library — included.

    Identity assurance

How we prove the right person did the work

The most common objection to an online programme is simple: how does the court know the participant didn't send someone else? RootCalm answers that with biometric identity verification built into the court programme.

    ID check at enrolment

A government-issued ID or passport is captured and checked for authenticity before the first module unlocks.

    Live selfie match

    A liveness capture confirms a real, present person — not a photo, a video, or a stand-in.

    Re-match before assessments

A quick face re-match runs before key assessments and before the certificate is issued, so the same person is present throughout.

    On the certificate

Each certificate carries an identity-assurance line: verification date, method, and how many re-match checks were passed — confirmable on the public verification page.

Privacy-first and POPIA-aligned: checks run only for court-mandated programmes, with explicit consent. Document images and biometric templates stay with our specialist verification provider — RootCalm stores only the result and its date. See section 6A of our Privacy Policy.

Each section below is tagged with the ROOTS step it belongs to, so you always know where you are in the journey.

Learning outcomes • The ROOTS Method

What you'll be able to do

By the end of the 12 court-compliant modules you will be able to:

    • Reset

Use evidence-based de-escalation to interrupt escalation before it becomes an incident.

    • Observe

Identify your triggers, warning signs and high-risk situations in writing.

    • Origin

Explain the origins of your anger pattern, including victim-impact awareness.

    • Transform

Restructure the thinking that justified the behaviour, using CBT tools.

    • Soothe

Produce a documented relapse-prevention plan and complete pre/post DAR-5 screening for the court file.

Progress is measured with the DAR-5 (Dimensions of Anger Reactions), a brief validated anger screening scale, taken before you start and again after Module 12.

    Why ROOTS is different

Most anger courses treat the smoke. ROOTS treats the fire underneath.

The ROOTS Method™ (Reset → Observe → Origin → Transform → Soothe) is the signature 5-step framework built into every module of this programme. It's why participants don't just complete the course — they change.

    Typical anger course

Teaches breathing tricks and tells you to 'count to 10'.

    RootCalm · ROOTS Method™

Starts with Reset — teaches WHY the body has to calm first, then gives you three portable regulation skills.

    Typical anger course

One-size-fits-all videos you watch and forget.

    RootCalm · ROOTS Method™

Observe step personalises everything to your anger type, style, triggers and thought patterns using in-app assessments.

    Typical anger course

Skips the deep 'why' — treats anger as a surface behaviour problem.

    RootCalm · ROOTS Method™

Origin step gently traces anger back to childhood patterns, unmet needs and core beliefs (the actual root).

    Typical anger course

'Just think positive' cognitive tips with no structure.

    RootCalm · ROOTS Method™

Transform uses full CBT hot-thought logs, 12 distortion library, evidence-for/against, and a saved Reframe Bank.

    Typical anger course

Ends when the video ends — no plan, no repair, no maintenance.

    RootCalm · ROOTS Method™

Soothe rebuilds self and relationships (reparenting, real apology, prevention plan, maintenance).

    What makes this different

    Detailed 12-Module Curriculum

Every module follows the ROOTS Method™ — Reset, Observe, Origin, Transform, Soothe. Tap any module to see its learning objectives, key takeaways, and lessons inside.

Anger is a dashboard warning light, not a character flaw. Before you can change anything, your nervous system needs to feel safe. Module 1 teaches you the neuroscience of anger, maps your personal body signals, connects them to the real triggers and background states (SAD HATS) that fire them, and gives you portable Reset skills — plus an honest audit of what anger has already cost you, so your reason to change is louder than the next impulse.

    Learning objectives

    • Explain what anger is doing in the brain and body (amygdala hijack, fight/flight, 90-second wave).
    • Complete the Physiology self-scan and identify your personal body warning signals.
    • Audit the real costs of anger across relationships, health, work, legal, money and self.
    • Map each body signal to the real-life triggers that fire it, and identify the SAD HATS states that amplify them.
    • Practise and record at least one evidence-based Reset skill (long-exhale sigh, grounding, TIPP).
    • Commit to ONE weekly baseline-lowering lever for the next 7 days.

    Key takeaways

    • You are not broken — you are dysregulated. Regulation is a skill you can learn.
    • The first 90 seconds are biology. What you do next is a choice.
    • Triggers don't cause explosions on their own — a dry forest (SAD HATS) does.
    • Your reason to change is not shame. It's the specific, personal costs you've already paid.
    • A reset in the body has to happen before any conversation, apology or plan.

    Inside this module

    • Step 1 · Reset first — the ROOTS Method and your personal Reset Menu
    • Step 2 · Self-soothing menu — bilateral tapping, humming, cold, self-hug, orienting
    • Step 3 · Lowering your baseline stress + emotional regulation (long-term Reset lever)
    • Step 4 · What is the real cost of your anger? + ready-for-change readiness ruler
    • Step 5 · First look at your triggers → body-signal map + SAD HATS (deep-dive in Module 2)
    • Step 6 · First look at your anger type & style profile (deep-dive in Module 3)
    • Step 7 · Reflection check-in + Module 1 quiz
    • Step 8 · Your Module 1 summary — personalised recap and your ROOTS journey so far

    Common Questions

Will my court accept this programme?

Acceptance is always at the discretion of the presiding officer or supervisor. The programme is built to meet common anger-management requirements and includes an independently verifiable certificate and a detailed progress report. We strongly recommend confirming in writing with your attorney or probation officer before enrolling.

How is this different from an in-person class?

Same clinical content (CBT, DBT, ACT) developed and supervised by Dr Elizma van der Smit, Clinical Psychologist (HPCSA PS0064793) and NAMA Certified Anger Management Specialist–II (CAMS-II) — delivered on your schedule, with time-verified sessions logged automatically and an independently verifiable digital certificate.

    How long does it take?

We offer five tiers: Court Essentials (8 hrs / 8 weeks), Diversion (8 hrs / 8 weeks), Tier 1 (12 hrs / 12 weeks), Tier 2 (24 hrs / 6 months), and Tier 3 (52 hrs / 12 months). The ordering authority decides which tier is appropriate. Sessions are time-verified so the hours on your certificate reflect actual time spent.

    Is the certificate verifiable?

Yes. Every certificate includes a unique verification code that an attorney, magistrate, probation officer, or HR officer can confirm at www.root-calm.com/verify in under 30 seconds — no phone calls, no waiting.

What if I need a progress report mid-programme?

You can download a current progress report at any time from your dashboard. Court Compliance participants also receive automatic enrolment, mid-programme, and completion letters that can be filed with the court.

What information gets shared with my court?

Only what you or your attorney choose to submit. You download the certificate and report yourself and decide what to hand over. We do not contact your court, employer, or attorney directly without your written request. Your personal data is protected under POPIA.

What happens if my assessment scores don't improve?

The programme is structured around demonstrating engagement, attendance, homework, insight, and a relapse-prevention plan — not achieving a specific score. The report contextualises your scores honestly and notes engagement and the skills you've practised.

Can I do this from anywhere?

The programme is fully online and self-paced. You can complete it from any country, on any device. All you need is an internet connection.

Do I get any live, human contact — or is it all pre-recorded?

You get both. The modules are self-paced, and every enrolled participant may join an optional live group Q&A twice a month — the 1st Saturday at 09:00 US Central and the 3rd Saturday at 13:00 US Central, for one hour. You reserve a seat from your dashboard, the time is shown in your own timezone, and you can send your question in advance. Sessions are not recorded.

Does attending the live Q&A count towards my hours?

No. Attendance is facilitator-marked and retained on your internal compliance file, but it does not count toward your ordered hours, is not itemised on court reports and is not required for completion.

Can my attorney or probation officer get read-only access?

Yes. You can grant a third party read-only access to your dashboard so they can confirm progress in real time. Revoke access any time from your settings.

    Can someone under 18 enrol?

Only where the programme is eligible for a minor, a parent or legal guardian is involved and consents, and the referring authority's requirements are confirmed before enrolment.

    What this program is, precisely

RootCalm Court Compliance is a psychoeducational anger management program. It is not psychotherapy, does not constitute a psychological or psychiatric evaluation, and is not intended to replace individualised clinical treatment where such treatment has been ordered or recommended.

The standardised DAR-5 measure documents change in anger-related attitudes and behaviour from pre-program to post-program. They are not offered as proof of rehabilitation or as a risk assessment.

Acceptance is determined by the referring court, prosecutor or supervising authority. A free pre-approval letter is available before enrolment, and how completion is verified is documented in full.
