This Is Your Pep Talk — Read This When You're Running on Empty

This Is Your Pep Talk — Read This When You're Running on Empty

Hey. Yes, you. Stop scrolling for a second.

I don't know what today looked like for you. Maybe you held it together in front of everyone and fell apart the moment you were alone. Maybe you snapped at someone you love and now the guilt is eating you alive. Maybe you're just tired — not the kind sleep fixes, but the kind that sits in your bones and makes everything feel heavier than it should.

Whatever brought you here — I'm glad you came.

    You are not failing

Let me say that again, because your brain probably tried to argue with it: You are not failing.

You're exhausted. You're overwhelmed. You might be running on fumes and caffeine and sheer stubbornness. But that doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. It means you're doing something incredibly hard — and you're still here.

The fact that you're looking for a pep talk means something. It means a part of you still believes things can get better. Hold onto that part. It's telling the truth.

    Feelings are not facts

Right now your brain might be telling you stories like:

    • "I should be handling this better."
    • "Everyone else has it figured out."
    • "I'm too broken to fix."
    • "What's the point?"

Those are feelings dressed up as facts. They feel absolutely real — but they're not the whole picture. When your nervous system is in overdrive, your brain narrows its focus to threats and failures. It literally cannot see the good stuff. That's not a character flaw. That's biology.

You can learn to catch these thought patterns. A Thought Record is one of the most effective ways to separate what you feel from what's actually true.

You've survived 100% of your worst days

Think about that. Every single day that felt impossible — the ones where you didn't think you'd make it through — you made it through. You're here. Reading this. Still fighting, even when fighting looks like just getting out of bed.

    That's not nothing. That's everything.

Small is not the same as meaningless

You don't have to overhaul your life today. You don't have to have a breakthrough or a revelation or a five-year plan. Sometimes progress looks like:

    • Drinking a glass of water
    • Taking three slow breaths
    • Saying "I'm struggling" out loud — even just to yourself
    • Choosing not to send that angry text
    • Going outside for two minutes

These aren't small things. They're brave things. And they compound. If you need a gentle starting point, try our Guided Meditations — even 3 minutes can shift something.

You are allowed to feel angry

A lot of people land on this site because their anger scares them. Maybe you yelled. Maybe you punched a wall. Maybe you just feel this constant low hum of irritation that makes you hate who you're becoming.

Here's what I want you to know: anger is not the enemy. Anger is information. It's telling you something needs to change — a boundary that's been crossed, a need that's not being met, an old wound that's been poked.

The problem was never that you feel anger. The problem is that nobody taught you what to do with it. That's fixable. That's literally what we're here for.

If you're not sure where your anger is coming from, our Anger Styles Quiz can help you understand your patterns — it takes less than 3 minutes.

    Permission slips

    Consider this your permission to:

    • ✅ Not have it all figured out
    • ✅ Ask for help without feeling weak
    • ✅ Take a break without earning it first
    • ✅ Feel two things at once (angry AND sad, hopeful AND scared)
    • ✅ Start over as many times as you need to
    • ✅ Be a work in progress and still be worthy of love

    What to do right now

If you're in crisis, please reach out to a crisis helpline. There is no shame in that — only courage.

If you're not in crisis but you're struggling, here are some next steps that might help:

    1. Breathe first. Try a quick guided calm-down — your body needs to feel safe before your mind can think clearly.
    2. Name what you're feeling. Use our Mood Logger to track it. Research shows that naming emotions reduces their intensity (Lieberman et al., 2007).
    3. Challenge one negative thought. Open a Thought Record and write down the loudest thought in your head. Then ask: "Is this definitely true, or does it just feel true right now?"
    4. Do one kind thing for yourself. Not because you earned it. Because you're a human being who is hurting, and that is enough of a reason.

You are not alone in this

Thousands of people visit this site every week feeling exactly like you do right now. You are not the only one struggling. You are not the only one who loses their temper, cries in the car, or lies awake at 2am wondering if things will ever get easier.

They will. Not because life magically gets simpler — but because you get stronger. And you're already stronger than you think.

If you want to explore what's really driving your emotions, our free assessments are a safe, private place to start. No judgement. No pressure. Just clarity.

You showed up today. That is the first step. I'm proud of you for that. 💛
